Halloween Trivia
Whether you are at a wild party tonight with the adults, throwing down booze with James Dean, a skeleton, and a ridiculously naughty nurse, or just toting the kids around town tomorrow begging for candy (that will be me), here are a few Halloween-related conversation starters:
- The most popular costumes for 2009 (unofficially) are Michael Jackson, Kate Gosselin, vampires, and Billy Mays in no particular order.
- Candy fact: almost $2 billion will be spent in the U.S. on Halloween candy this year!1
- Snickers bars were named after a horse owned by the Mars family.2
- The first jack-o-lanterns were made out of turnips, not pumpkins.3
- To keep squirrels away from your pumpkins, try putting chili powder on them – the pumpkins, not the squirrels. I’ve had success with liquid dish soap in the past, but some people swear by the chili powder or other mashed peppers.4
