<p>Alligators are darker colored, have shorter rounded snouts and typically live in freshwater habitats.  Crocodiles usually live in saltwater areas, have longer V-shaped snouts, and have a lower tooth that sticks out when the jaw is closed.  Source: <a href="http://www.sandiegozoo.org/animalbytes/t-crocodile.html" target="_blank">San Diego Zoo</a></p>
