Trivial March Madness Notes
If you don’t know that March Madness begins today or don’t know that March Madness is the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament, then you probably don’t care. If you already have your brackets filled out, there’s nothing I can say in two paragraphs that you don’t already know about the tournament. Instead, here are a few trivial pieces of info about the teams in this year’s tournament you can use at the local watering hole:
- Morgan State University, the 15th seed in the South region, is not in the state of Morgan but rather in Baltimore, Maryland.
- North Dakota State University, the 14th seed in the Midwest region, is in its first year of eligibility as a Division I school. Previously a Division II school, four NDSU player red-shirted five years ago so they could have a chance at the tournament this year – their senior year. Root for them; it’s a great story. - Don’t bother getting to know the 16 seeds- they are a career 0-96 in the tournament, so they will likely be gone and forgotten by tomorrow evening.
- The Utah State Aggies are a tough #11 seed and may win a game or two. Also tough? The mascot, Big Blue, who roughed it up with the New Mexico State mascot (Pistol Pete) a week ago after stealing Pistol Pete’s mustache. Pete retaliated (video below), but Big Blue wouldn’t take the bait.
