Olympic Bids – Find out tomorrow what you will forget for 7 years

Olympic ringsThe International Olympic Committee (IOC) is in Copenhagen, Denmark, forming a final decision for the city to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.  The contenders are Madrid (Spain), Tokyo (Japan), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and Chicago (USA).  The decision will be announced tomorrow, but you should know that the front-runners are Rio and Chicago.  Chicago has thrown everything they have in terms of persona behind their bid, with the mayor (Richard Daley), Oprah, and even President Obama supporting the bid, making important appearances, etc.

Rio, however, has the biggest budget of the four cities competing for the Olympic bid.  The potential for crime is a drawback, but if the city can convince the IOC that crime can be remedied, there might be some celebrating in the streets of Brazil tomorrow.

Don’t fret too much about this topic after tomorrow – with the 2016 Olympics not for seven years, everyone outside of the winning and losing cities will forget about tomorrow’s decision until NBC starts shoving the coverage down our throats a couple weeks into the summer of 2016.  For instance, did you know that Sochi (Russia) is hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics?  I didn’t think so, but at least you know that now and you can mention it tomorrow when the 2016 decision is announced.
