College football primer
College football officially started yesterday, so before you’re knee deep in a “rah rah” talk from Uncle Johnny spewing off about Football U., here are a few key things to know:
- Tim Tebow isn’t in college anymore. He’s currently struggling as a backup on the Denver Broncos.
- Alabama is the #1 ranked team entering the season, and their star running back, Mark Ingram, will miss the first game (bad knee). Not to worry, though, as they play a cupcake team (San Jose State) and have more than capable reserves.
- After Alabama, the next best teams are Ohio State, Boise State, Florida, Texas, TCU, and Oklahoma, according to the AP Poll.
- Yes, Nebraska agreed to join the Big Ten, but no, they are not in the Big Ten yet. The Cornhuskers will join the Big Ten in 2011.
- North Carolina (ranked 18th) is dealing with some potential NCAA violations involving academic misconduct and “possible improper contact with agents,”1, causing 12 players to be ineligible for their first game and maybe longer.
Those are the main storylines to start the season, so you are at least a little prepared for the pigskin craziness that begins this weekend.
