What is Boxing Day?

How soon you forget: Dinner Topics covered Boxing Day last year, but since the networks refuse to run new programming this week, DT will provide this “rerun” for you as well.  The original post can be found here, but the details are below as well.

The exact reason for the term “Boxing Day” is unclear, but the tradition is that it was the day when merchants would give employees and servants the day off while the upper class would have a simple buffet-style lunch without being served. Various traditions involve giving servants boxes of food and money, but no single source has been confirmed as the official reason for the day’s name.
