Swine Flu Facts
Today’s topic isn’t exactly one ripe for the dinner table, but it’s still something you should know. With the recent outbreak of the swine flu in Mexico and now spreading to the U.S. (with 20 reported cases already) and Europe, it’s important to know a few facts.
- Swine flu is “a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that causes regular outbreaks in pigs. People do not normally get swine flu, but human infections can and do happen.” 1
- It IS contagious and likely spreads the way a “normal” flu virus spreads.
- Symptoms are also similar to regular flu symptoms (fever, aches, chills, sore throat, etc.).
