Pandemic vs. Epidemic
With the swine flu spreading everywhere, the word “pandemic” keeps cropping up, and you are probably wondering what ever happened to a good ol’ “epidemic?” Here is the difference, courtesy of Infoplease.com:
An epidemic occurs when a disease affects a greater number people than is usual for the locality or one that spreads to areas not usually associated with the disease.
A pandemic is an epidemic of world-wide proportions. 1
Basically, when you read about a pandemic, it means more people in more areas (possible multiple countries or even worldwide) are affected. And you’re screwed.
