New meaning to a “fresh set of eyes”

The next time you need a fresh set of eyes to look at something, you might not even need another person present.  In a remarkable experiment, scientists used embryonic stem cells from mice to create a portion of an eye (called the “optic cup”).1  That’s right, a simple eye has grown from stem cells carefully structured by the scientists.

The big question: when will optical stores start stocking human eyes instead of bifocals?  According to the article linked below, scientists believe human cells can be used for a similar experiment in about two years.  After some fine tuning, I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone with a health plan is able to see 20/20 by the year… 2020.
