White House Events
Two events coming out of the White House have been sticking around the news the past couple days, so let me get you up to speed with a very brief explanation.
Van Jones, the White House environmental adviser, resigned because of comments he made BEFORE joining Obama’s administration back in February. A video is floating around the internet (found here) from the day of Jones’ comments in which he called Republicans a–holes. Read the transcript or watch the video to get the full context (he refers to himself in the same way) before spouting off your own opinion. According to the USA Today, Jones also “was linked to efforts suggesting a government role in the Sept. 11 attacks…”.1
The other news coming out of Washington is President Obama’s plan to deliver a speech (via video) to school children this Tuesday which essentially amounts to a “stay in school” message with a focus on being responsible with one’s education. Obama’s simple message has become an uproar because many detractors believe there is a political agenda involved when a president addresses the public (yes, even children) without the option for a rebuttal by the opposing party. Make of that what you will, but regardless of how you feel about that, enjoy your Labor Day!
