What is NATO?
There was a bombing in Islamabad that struck some NATO trucks today. NATO is one of those acronyms you often hear but may not know what it stands for.
NATO = North Atlantic Treaty Organization
The main purpose of the organization was to form an alliance, so that all members would help defend an attack to any member from an outside group. And you thought the TV show Survivor originated strong alliances! Originally, in 1949, 12 countries formed NATO, but there have been several expansions since then. Some notable member countries are: Canada, United States, Greece, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, and recently Croatia and Albania.
