Knowing Newt’s Name
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is scheduled to announce his candidacy for the 2012 presidential election sometime Wednesday. For the record, Gingrich will be 68 in June, and for the younger generation, Gingrich was the Speaker of the House during Bill Clinton’s presidency and Newt stepped down from the House of Representatives shortly after winning an election in 1998, a whopping 13 years ago.
If you need something extra to talk about, you might think there’s an interesting story behind Gingrich’s “Newt” moniker – perhaps a nickname with a great story behind it. Sadly, no. Newt is simply short for Gingrich’s real first name, Newton. Feel free to make up something more interesting, though.
