Health care bill voted on again?
It’s Christmas, but Dinner Topics won’t take a break. In fact, with a family dinner likely scheduled for today, you need us now more than ever. The big news story of the past couple days is the Senate’s approval of the health care bill. Here’s where you want to make sure you don’t get confused. The bill has been approved, but universal health care is still not a law.
It is probably inevitable at this point, but what remains in the health care saga is for the Senate and the House to meld their respective bills into something that all parties can agree on that will ultimately be signed in as law by the President. In general, the House’s rendition is more sweeping and includes the controversial public health option. That will probably be the biggest sticking point with many member of Congress as one side feels that the whole point of a new health care bill is for the government to provide health care for everyone, while the other side feels that the government is already over-involved in too many aspects of the individual.
Taxes and policies on abortion are other main topics of debate between the two bills. One way or another, health care will likely change in our near future. Now you are armed with some extra knowledge about it as you polish off your second glass of egg nog.
Happy holidays from everyone at DinnerTopics.com!
