Times Square bombing attempt
The big news in America the past couple days has been the attempted bombing in Times Square. A suspect has been found and more details have been released. If you haven’t been following the news, here are the basics:
- On Saturday, an SUV in Times Square was set on fire with explosives inside, but luckily the explosives never ignited.
- The offender (Faisal Shahzad) was arrested as he was boarding a plane at JFK to Dubai and was planning to make Islamabad his final destination.
- Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan, Shahzad’s home country (but Shahzad is an American citizen).
- The act is widely assumed to be a terrorist act but the reasoning behind it is currently unknown.
- Irony alert: Islamabad means “Abode of Peace”.1
