As the main island of French Polynesia, Tahiti is located in the South Pacific, about 2,500 miles southeast of Hawaii. Tahiti and the other 34 islands of French Polynesia are geographically diverse, with mountains and volcanoes forming picturesque landscapes. It’s no surprise that tourism is the island’s main industry.
