Copenhagen and the climate conference
A United Nations conference on the climate and global warming will begin tomorrow in Copenhagen, Denmark. While that may not seem like a riot-inducing topic, apparently it’s a huge sticking point for many groups planning both peaceful and not-so-peaceful demonstrations. It’s assumed to be so bad that Copenhagen has amped up its police force to record numbers and even passed some new laws allowing “stricter” enforcement.
The controversy involves some stolen emails which allegedly point to some scientists intentionally overstating the effect we (humans) have had on the climate. It’s a deep and interesting subject that requires a lot more reading than one small Dinner Topics post. The links below provide more information on the conference, but this post is to inform you where Copenhagen sits on our little globe.
Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark, a country in northern Europe sandwiched between Sweden and Germany. The country is unique in that it borders both the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The majority of Denmark juts out north of Germany, but Copenhagen is located on a smaller island closer to Sweden. I assume you can probably get a good deal on chewing tobacco there as well.
