Zhu Zhu Pets – The Toy You “Can’t Can’t” Find

Zhu Zhu petIt’s Black Friday, and if you are reading the mobile version of this site right now while waiting in line at an electronics store to save $50 on a DVD player that you don’t need, well… let’s face the facts – you are crazy.  If you are waiting in line to find some small furry electronics hamsters, then you’re probably out of luck.

The biggest “hard to find” toy this holiday season is shaping up to be Zhu Zhu Pets.  Zhu Zhu Pets are small electronic/robotic hamsters that… well, they kind of squiggle around your floor, but with personality and sound effects.  Naturally, plenty of accessories are available for purchase as well, from little cars to hamster wheels to tubes.

These things retailed at under $10, but with the recent scarcity, Amazon.com and other sites have gouged the prices upward to $50 or $60 for a single one of these!  Shipments will continue to slowly roll in, but the company making them is Cepia, a small outfit Missouri with 16 employees, so the ability to just pump out another million hamsters to meet demand isn’t exactly plausible.  As a result, the supply limitations, low cost, and pre-holiday hype will likely keep Zhu Zhu Pets the biggest unattainable gift all season long.
