tvFor you uppity types, you probably think the words “important” and “TV show” are an oxymoron.  Enjoy your chuckle, but two significant television shows are going off the air – one of them tonight.

“Guiding Light,” a soap opera that began 72 years ago (that’s before there was even a boob tube) has been canceled due to low ratings and a poor economy.  The last episode will be televised in September.

“ER,” the popular medical drama, is broadcasting its last episode tonight after an impressive 15-year run on NBC’s primetime schedule.  As a viewer of the show, I can’t think of many other programs that produced quality television as consistently as “ER.”  Like pizza, even when it wasn’t good, it was still pretty good.
