Romo, Simpson, and Tierney in the news

I mentioned directly in The Skinny when this site was first created that the site exists “so you can know the details ahead of time, even if it’s just the name of the latest Britney Spears song everyone is singing.” That means every once in a while, you’ll get a post like this one. We’re not trying to copy US Weekly, but we need to make sure you know what people will be talking about tonight, so here’s a quick update from the celebrity gossip pages.

Tony Romo, quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, has apparently broken up with girlfriend Jessica Simpson (singer, reality “star,” etc.). Dinner Topics doesn’t participate in making up news, so feel free to Google their names and speculate like the rest of the world on what went wrong in a relationship between two people you have never met.

Elsewhere in Hollywood, NBC was primed to debut the show Parenthood this fall, a remake of a TV show of the same name from 19 years ago which was a remake of a movie of the same name from 1989 starring Steve Martin and about a dozen other recognizable talents. The series has been put on hold because actress Maura Tierney (ER, NewsRadio) is having a tumor removed. Assuming all goes well for Tierney, Parenthood will be used as a mid-season replacement.

If you have watched any television on NBC in the last 15 years, then you likely know of Maura Tierney. She played Abby Lockhart on ER and Lisa Miller on NewsRadio. Also appearing in smaller roles in many movies over the years, Tierney has always had a knack for making her characters believable, and she has proven that she can do comedy and drama with equal success.
