tavernWhether you are braving the bar scene or settling in at home tonight, it’s likely that you’ll be around people and have some interesting conversations, especially the closer you get to midnight and the closer your bottle gets to empty.

Among the topics you might discuss are Tiger Woods, Charlie Sheen, Avatar, Sherlock Holmes, George Clooney, health care, the economy, the stock market, the underwear bomber, body scans, and what you did for the holidays last week.  Here’s one more that isn’t quite as newsworthy but interesting nonetheless.

The famous New York restaurant Tavern on the Green is closing for good after tonight.  Due to a poor economy and the city of New York choosing not to renew the restaurant’s lease1, Tavern filed for bankruptcy, and it will probably be years before on the dust settles on who owes whom what and who owns what.  In the meantime, share the story of Tavern on the Green’s closing as you watch the ball drop at Times Square.  You can remind that 30-somethings or 40-somethings around you that the old Folgers Crystals commercials where the guy “secretly replaced” a restaurants coffee with Folgers Crystals occurred at Tavern on the Green.2
