Take a look at the NY Times best seller lists, or just sneak a peek into any woman’s stack of books next to her bed, and you’re likely to find a book written by Nicholas Sparks. The name is probably familiar to you, but unless you love heart wrenching tear jerkers, you might not know why you’ve heard of him before.
Nicholas Sparks is a popular author with a couple books currently selling well, titled The Last Song (#5 Hardcover Fiction) and Dear John (#1 Paperback Mass-Market Fiction). Several of his books have been turned into movies, most notably The Notebook, starring Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling, James Garner, and others.
More recently, Dear John has been made into a film and will go into wide release in two weeks. Obvious to the trend that his novels have taken, Sparks tried something different with The Last Song, writing the screenplay first and then writing the novel, perhaps to get more control of the movie side rather than handing the story over to different writers. Miley Cyrus will be playing a major role in The Last Song when it opens later in 2010.
Whether you’ve heard of him before this post or not, if you have a wife or girlfriend, you’ve probably been dragged to one of his movies or heard about his books. Now at least you know who to blame!
