Hollywood officially out of new ideas

tyler poseyOf all the movies in the Hollywood universe, if there’s one that never needed to be recycled again, it would be Teen Wolf.  Ok, it would actually be Teen Wolf Too, which was the EXACT same movie, but they replaced Michael J. Fox with Jason Bateman and boxing replaced basketball as the sport of choice.  Don’t get me wrong, Teen Wolfis the perfect ’80s “so bad it’s good” movie and Michael J. Fox is the perfect actor for it (“hey, let’s cast the short Canadian kid as a high schooler who turns into a basketball-playing wolf”).  In its genre of absurd stereotypes with ultra-predictable plots, it’s perfect.  But a remake?!

Thanks to the vampire craze of Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, etc., MTV is hoping young audiences some wolves, too.  This is not going to be a movie remake, but rather a TV series, a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  While Buffy the TV series was infinitely more successful than the movie, for every Buffy remake, there are about a hundred Ferris Bueller failures.  Yes, Ferris was a TV series, and Jennifer Aniston starred in it way back in 1990.  Tyler Posey will be the new Scott.  Posey is in two TV shows you’ve probably never seen: Lincoln Heights and Brothers & Sisters.

Younger kids probably don’t have a clue about the movie Teen Wolf, and they likely aren’t aware of Ferris Bueller either, so when they start talking about “some new Teen Wolf TV show on MTV,” you can give them a little history lesson.  Of course, that will make you seem even older to them, but you shouldn’t care.  Heck, YOU remember watching Friends before they were all reruns!  Keep that to yourself, though.
