Former Newlyweds to be newlywed… to other people
Remember the good ol’ days of the mid-aughts, when Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica would air on MTV, starring singer Jessica Simpson and former boy band star Nick Lachey? For those who don’t remember/don’t care, Newlyweds was a reality show where the editors would happily capture Jessica saying something stupid (“I hate record labels. They think they know everything. I want to hear them try to sing it.”1), Nick would roll his eyes, and by the end of the episode, after having fought about money, they’d kiss and makeup while we got to watch it all unravel.
Shortly after the series ended, the marriage unraveled as well, and just recently, Nick and Jessica announced engagements… to other people. Nick is engaged to Vanessa Minnillo, who turned a Miss Teen USA victory into a career of modeling, acting, and hosting TV shows. Just yesterday, Jessica announced her engagement to Eric Johnson, a former NFL player who just finalized a divorce from his wife of five years in September. Need another bit of ironic trivia: Johnson went to Yale and was an academic All-American, so the intellectual discussions in the Johnson-Simpson household will be interesting to say the least. Perhaps another reality show is needed.
The life of a celebrity may not be anything like yours, but at least you’re up to date on the ones some people might be talking about this week.
