Ok, so your wife has been bugging you to buy her a “real” camera for Christmas because she’s tired of those “point and shoot” ones about the size of a deck of cards.  They take decent enough pictures, but there’s always that annoying lag between snapping pictures, and the flash never seems to come out right.  You’re pretty sure you’ve heard her mention “DSLR” or something like that.  That’s the abbreviation you need to know this Christmas.

DSLR = Digital Single Lens Reflex

DSLR cameras are those larger ones, usually with a medium to long lens attached.  Recognize names like Canon Rebel or Nikon D3000?  Those are DSLR cameras.  Yes, they cost more, but yes, they take much better pictures and you can snap away like a pro.  Prices are way down on DSLRs compared to a couple years ago, so now is the time to make the plunge.  Plus, now you’ll know what DSLR stands for.  Oh, and if my wife is reading this, don’t get too excited – there will be no camera this year.  Maybe next year?
