Bruno Mars – up and coming musician
The Grammy nominations were announced last week, and artists you already know like Lady Gaga, Jay-Z, and Eminem were well represented. One other artist you need to know about before the Grammys ceremony in February is Bruno Mars, nominated for 7 awards.
You may not be familiar with Bruno Mars, but I guarantee you’ve heard something in the past year or two with his involvement. The current song flooding the airwaves over the past few months is Just the Way You Are (video below). This is NOT the old Billy Joel song, but believe me, you’ve heard it before. As for Mars, his real name is Peter Gene Hernandez (not quite as catchy as Bruno Mars). Still only 25, Mars has written a handful of popular songs and performed on some of them before expanding his own solo career. Nothin’ on You and Billionaire are the two singles with his involvement most people have heard at this point.
Not without controversy, Mars was arrested for cocaine possession in Las Vegas several months ago, so don’t go letting your teenagers sneak backstage. Mars has a wide-ranging voice and a bevy of musical skills from singing to writing to playing many instruments, so if he can keep his nose clean (both literally and figuratively), Bruno might stick around the popular music scene for decades to come. Bonus trivia: as a little boy, Mars had a cameo in the movie Honeymoon in Vegas, playing a “little Elvis” in a scene.1
