Timothy Geithner – 75th Secretary of the Treasury
Timothy Geithner was named U.S. Secretary of the Treasury in late January, taking over for Henry Paulson. Geithner is in the news more than past Treasury Secretaries because the economy has been in the forefront of the news lately. Geithner, “only” 47 years old, has taken some heat early on but has impressed some with his recent plan for the banking system. A quick rundown of Geithner and the job of the Secretary of the Treasury:
Timothy Geithner: despite being a few years shy of 50, Geithner has over 20 years of experience in the Department of Treasury, working in three administrations for five different Secretaries of the Treasury. 1
Secretary of the Treasury: the secretary serves as the “principal economic advisor to the President” and “[t]he Chief Financial Officer of the government” among many other titles. 2

The insolvency of the big banks is the problem. Geithner and the politicians need to curtail the explosion in Washington spending, expanding the debt and destroying the dollar but the real solution is a gold backed currency free of government manipulation.
