Seattle P-I: Newspaper Minus the “Paper”

seattle p-i buildingPeople are celebrating St. Patty’s Day, but for traditionalists and lovers of newspapers, it’s a grim day.  The Seattle Post-Intelligencer (maybe the worst named paper) is printing its final edition today after a 146 year run.  The P-I will become “the nation’s largest daily newspaper to shift to an entirely digital news product.” (Source: SeattlePI.com)

With people trending more and more toward the internet for their news, the P-I will certainly not be the last large volume newspaper to cease printing.  Many papers have already made severe cuts in employment and content.  Expect to see a few more papers fall by the wayside in the coming years, and brace yourself for the day when you are retired, sipping lemonade on your front porch, reading the news with a laptop.  Sigh.
